Trump and Melania Stuck on UN Escalator (Social Media)
International News:A simple technical glitch during the United Nations General Assembly suddenly escalated into a political controversy. While President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were ascending an escalator, it stopped mid-air. The incident created an uncomfortable situation for the Trump administration and even sparked a minor diplomatic tension between the United States and the United Nations.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that this was not merely a technical error. She wrote on Twitter (formerly Twitter) that if this was intentional, the employees responsible should be immediately dismissed and a thorough investigation should be conducted. Levitt described it as a serious matter involving the security of the President and First Lady.
According to reports, some UN employees joked that the escalators and elevators would be shut down upon Trump's arrival. It was even suggested that Trump would be told that the UN had run out of money. This statement further escalated the controversy.
A few minutes after the escalator incident, Trump faced a technical problem in the teleprompter during a speech at the General Assembly. He said in a stuffed manner, "Whoever is running it will have to face a lot of difficulty." Trump connected the incident to the UN's widespread technical shortcomings.
During his speech, Trump said, "I ended seven wars and spoke with leaders of many countries, but I haven't even received a single call from the United Nations. Here I have found only bad escalators and teleprompters.” It was clear from his statement that he was dissatisfied with the functioning of the General Assembly.
The United Nations immediately issued a clarification. Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for Secretary-General António Guterres, stated that the escalator's safety mechanism had inadvertently activated when someone accidentally touched it. It was immediately reset. The teleprompter problem was under the supervision of the US administration and the UN had no role in it.
